How Gently Cooked Fits With Other Formats
Dry kibble, wet food, air-dried, freeze-dried, and human-grade gently-cooked fresh dog food are different formats with different benefits. Gently cooked delivers a moist, fresh-style meal with human-grade ingredients and shelf-stable convenience. Many families feed it as a full meal, a mixer with dry food, or a high-value topper. It does not need to replace every other format in your rotation.
How to Choose a Recipe
Start with variety packs if your dog is new to the line, then lock in favorites. Chicken & Pumpkin is a go-to for many picky dogs. Duck & Kale and Salmon are grain-free options. See the full story on What Is Human-Grade Fresh Dog Food?.
Pair with Broth-Licious or air-dried superfoods when you want extra toppers, or keep dry dog food as the everyday base.
Frequently Asked Questions About Gently Cooked Dog Food
What is human-grade gently-cooked fresh dog food?
It is Health Extension's shelf-stable fresh-style dog food: whole ingredients gently cooked in bone broth, packed ready to serve, with no refrigeration required before opening.
Does it need to be frozen or refrigerated?
No. Pouches are shelf-stable until opened. That is the core difference from many refrigerated or frozen fresh brands. After opening, follow the package storage directions.
Is gently cooked the same as raw?
No. Gently cooked meals are cooked, not raw. They offer a fresh-style texture and ingredients with cooking for safety and convenience, while raw and freeze-dried raw are separate formats.
Can I mix gently cooked with kibble?
Yes. Many pet parents mix human-grade gently-cooked fresh dog food with dry food for moisture and flavor. Account for calories from both when feeding.
Is it complete and balanced?
Most recipes are formulated to meet AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for all life stages, including growth of large-size dogs. The Vegetarian recipe is for adult maintenance. Check each package label.
